As a Data Scientist at the NIH Library, you will play a pivotal role in advancing biomedical research through the analysis of large datasets and application of cutting-edge bioinformatics techniques. The successful candidates will work directly with NIH researchers and clinicians to analyze complex biological data, support our licensed bioinformatics tools (Qiagen and Partek), and provide training and support to researchers in bioinformatics techniques and tools. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

·        Develops advanced methods, processes, algorithms, tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, Tableau) to extract meaning from data, with a focus on bioinformatics.

·        Develops and leads bioinformatics efforts that integrate technologies to gather and extract meaning from data.

·        Contributes to and validates writing code in programming languages (e.g., R, Python) to create data visualizations, including interactive dashboards, charts, and graphs, with a focus on bioinformatics.

·        Performs validation to ensure the data are FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable), traceable, and compatible with the organizational goals.

·        Develops and provides instruction in the use of data science tools with a focus on open source and licensed bioinformatic resources.

·        Serves as a subject matter expert in bioinformatics.
